Arabia X Vuokko: A new colourful collection brings two icons of Finnish design together

The Arabia x Vuokko collection was launched in April 2025, bringing together two pioneers of Finnish design. The collection combines Vuokko Nurmesniemi’s bold, graphic prints with Arabia’s timeless, clean-lined tableware design. The collaboration celebrates Finnish design heritage with a fresh and joyful spirit.

Vuokko was originally trained as a ceramicist, a background that informed her three-dimensional approach to textile design. Her impact on the international visibility of Finnishand Nordic design has been significant.

The pieces in the collection preserve the original spirit and precision of Vuokko’s prints – including intentional details such as layered color overlaps in the print surfaces.

The Arabia and Vuokko Story

The story of Arabia and Vuokko dates back to the 1940s, when 15-year-old Vuokko began working as a summer intern at the Arabia factory. Decades later, that connection has been reimagined in the Arabia x Vuokko collection.

The Collection

The collection includes ceramic tableware, a tray, napkins, and a rare glass vase originally designed by Vuokko in the 1950s during her time at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. This round, narrow-necked vase is now being reissued in three colours: clear, bright pink, and light green.

Vuokko Nurmesniemi’s Prints

The collection showcases three original textile patterns designed for Vuokko Oy:

• Kraklee (1964) – a spotted print with a yellow base

• Pieni 4-raita (1973) – a playful stripe pattern and one of Vuokko Oy’s most iconic designs

• 2-väri (1974) – a delicious combination of pink and red

All patterns are available on a mug, bread plate, and bowl, based on Arabia’s classic BK model originally designed by Birger Kaipiainen. The collection also includes a plywood tray featuring the 2-väri pattern and paper napkins in the Pieni 4-raita pattern.
